Screaming horns and earthshaking rhythms, Opa! Bato brings the unfettered sound of the Balkans to Melbourne!
This is as close as you will get to the real thing without having to fly half way around the world. You will, however, be flying for the duration of their show…
Melbourne's ambassadors of Balkan brass, Opa! Bato has been stunning its audiences with their unique mix of original tunes and traditional brass band fare.
Their genre is a fusion of European folk styles, with the exotic oriental influences brought across Asia by the Romany from northern India, way back in the middle ages.
An extensive repertoire covers everything from funeral marches to love songs, with many dance bangers also represented in their sets.
The only Australian brass band ever to perform at the world's largest brass festival 'Guča' (Serbia), Opa! Bato will venture into the public domain to perform for diaspora and locals alike.
Those who have never heard the style before will nevertheless feel the excitement, and understand the universal language of music.
We acknowledge that this event will be held on Wurundjeri land of the Kulin Nation and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
