The PERTH BLUES CLUB presents

NEW BLUES 4

Midnight Francine | 7.30pm

Midnight Francine is the pseudonym for Australian singer songwriter Nici Bull, a captivating songwriter who writes songs of love, tragedy and longing with an honesty that is both beautiful and compelling. Her unique style and sultry voice draw you in from the moment she begins to sing, weaving tales of the heart with a haunting folk blues flair. Midnight Francine performs at various venues, events and festivals around Perth and Fremantle including Perth Folk and Roots Club, Leederville Songwriters Club and was an emerging artist at the 2023 Nanga Music Festival. With her sights set on recording her first solo EP this year, and (fingers crossed) playing some more festivals, 2025 looks to be another exciting musical year for Midnight Francine.

Dr Cuz & The Gang | 8.30pm

Dr Cuz & The Gang are a 4-piece band who play bluesy soul, funk and reggae originals and covers. They released their multi-genre album in 2016 (as Dr Cuz and Friends) and the band have played numerous gigs in Perth and Fremantle, including the Fringe Festival (2019) and Gidgestock Festival (2022). They have received three nominations for the WAM Song of the Year and have recently released a funky album infused with a hint of blues (Funkylicious 2024). This exciting group of professional musicians always give a live performance to inspire and get people dancing and having fun.

Deadwater Pelican | 9.45pm

Deadwater Pelican originated as a casual collective in late 2022 to play at the South West Blues Club Jam Days. In Feb 2023, the group officially performed at the Southwest Blues Club’s Blues Central. Since then they have played regularly at various venues around the Bunbury Region and represented the South West Blues Club at Blues at Bridgetown in 2023. Lead vocals are shared between Ben Deely (guitar) and Royce Derbyshire (harp). Dana Renshaw (drums) and Samuel Noire (bass) make up the rhythm section and drive their high energy blues and blues rock covers. Cameo appearances from cigar box instruments acknowledge the origins of blues music. The band’s innovative interpretations of blues standards from the likes of Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy and Robert Johnston have been well received by audiences in the southwest. The band’s distinctive covers of classics from Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Junior Wells, Paul Butterfield and contemporary artists such as Larkin Poe, Samantha Fish, Matt Schofield and Chris Cain ensure the delivery of a highly entertaining show.
