DOORS 3:30PM / Australian wine & hospitality mavericks join forces to celebrate their dear friend Taras Ochota at a wine party fundraiser called M E O W.

MEOW - Epic wine tasting, silent auction and live music! In honour of our beautiful friend Taras Ochota, and to raise funds for the Ochota Scholarship that will help fund young winemakers through their studies at the University of Adelaide.

M E O W  is shaping up to be a belter wine party fundraiser with Australia’s greatest wine makers, importers, bands, and DJ’s. Allproceeds from ticket sales and auction items will go towards the Taras Ochota Scholarship Fund.

The Taras Ochota Scholarship Fund was established to honour the legacy of its lauded South Australian alumni winemaker Taras Ochota, and will provide financial support to aspiring winemakers studying viticulture and oenology at the University of Adelaide. Taras was regarded as being in a class of his own and has been described by others in his field as “a once in a generation winemaker”. M E O W is collaboration between the Ochota family, P&V Merchants, Mary’s Group and the University of Adelaide.

M E O W will feature a wine tasting from over fifteen producers including Ochota Barrels, Murdoch Hill (Shiraz of the Year Halliday Wine Awards), Commune of Buttons, Basket Range Wines, Charlotte Dalton Wines, Les Fruits Wines, P&V Merchants, Manon, Gentle Folk, Worlds Apart Wines, Hills Collide, Parley, Dr Edge, Brian, Holyman, Stoney Rise, Latta Wines, High Hopes Wine Co, Huge Moves/Wet Dreams, Wines of Merritt, Love Tilly Devine and Black Market Sake and many more.

A host of Australia’s most influential wine and hospitality forces have donated to a formidable list of auction items that will be auctioned by wine auctioneer Andrew Caillard MW.

These auction items are joined by other incredible experiences along with a unicorn wine silent auction featuring a magnum from Barossa enigma Sami Odi, stunning imports from Andrew Guard and a wine experience with Mac Forbes in the Yarra Valley.

To finish the night off, Byron Bay punks Mini Skirt will take to the stage as tins of Melbourne Bitter and Jack Daniels (orange wine) are consumed as a toast is raised to Taras.

“In years to come when people write about the history of Australian wine, when it comes to my generation, Taras is who they will look to. At a time when Australian wine had come to be known internationally as prestigious, big, bombastic and overblown, Taras’ wines were elegant, beautifully poised and immediately drinkable. He made the wine world reconsider Australian wine at an important time,” Nick Ryan Wine Writer

The Taras Ochota Scholarship fund has already raised just over $65,000 with the hope to raise an additional $35,000 at M E O W, and endow the scholarship in perpetuity.
