Jam Hot, Other Worlds Other Sounds and The Night Cat present Gabriele Poso (Live) on Friday 16th February.

Returning to Australia this time with his full band, multi-instrumentalist Gabriele Poso (Soundway, Wonderwheel) is known for his strong musical and spiritual vision as well as his extensive Afro-Cuban roots with classy syncopated drums that are carried on the back of driving and funky basslines.  Born in Sardinia but having developed his sound across the Caribbean, Poso is the director of the Yoruba Soul Orchestra for Grammy award winning producer Osunlade. His sophomore album “Roots of Soul” (INFRAcom!) was awarded Best Jazz Independent Production in 2012, and he has only continued to grow as an artist since, earning more accolades for his ancestral and evocative sound, including support from Gilles Peterson’s renowned show on Worldwide FM, plus further releases on Soundway, Wonderwheel and Agogo Records.

Joining on support are Melbourne’s heavyweights of the Salsa music scene Quarter Street, known for playing the 70’s era Salsa Dura classics from New York, Puerto Rico and Colombia whilst never shying away from playing their own original music made right here in Melbourne. Quarter Street take their cues from the giants: Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barreto and Willie Colon and the seminal record labels Fania and Tico records and charge straight ahead at the 21st century.

Filling the gaps in between are residents from Melbourne collectives Jam Hot (Wahl and DJ MBQ) and Other Worlds Other Sounds (Mark Moon, DJ Friday & Carlo Xavier).

A full night of Afro Caribbean/Cuban sounds await, with modern global dance floor heat mixed in to take you through till 3am. Don’t miss this one!
