Premier Artists Present
Flyying Colours | You Never Know Tour
A decade on from the release of their debut single ‘Wavygravy’, Australia’s leading shoegaze-dream pop outfit Flyying Colours has today announced the forthcoming arrival of their third studio album You Never Know, landing Friday 17 March via Poison City / Club AC30, and have shared the album’s first single, ‘Goodbye to Music’. Record pre-orders are available now via Poison City’s e-store.
An infectious pop panorama fusing ‘80s-inspired keys with glistening guitar and charming vocal harmonies, ‘Goodbye to Music’ marks the first new studio offering from the band since the release of 2021’s globally acclaimed sophomore album, Fantasy Country.
According to songwriter and guitarist Brodie Brümmer, 'Goodbye to Music' is about accepting the inevitable consequences of past actions - in this case, about the very real possibility of losing his hearing.
"'Goodbye to Music' is about hearing loss," he shares. "For a period of time I became obsessed with how I had neglected my ears over many years of touring, rehearsing, mixing and recording, and I constantly contemplated what it would be like to say goodbye to music."
"Writing this song was a way for me to accept that what is done is done, and to manage my own guilt spiral. The guitar parts were circling around my head incessantly for weeks, as was the ringing in my ears, before the words and music came together."
You Never Know is the third studio album from Flyying Colours. Recorded over a two-week period in the summer of 2021 at Red Doors Sounds with long-time producer Woody Annison, Flyying Colours intended to capture a moment in time with recurring themes and sounds which feature throughout the record.
Punctuated by soaring musical moments and grandiose walls of sound, You Never Know launches into familiar Flyying Colours territory with the rollicking noise-rock of ‘Lost Then Found’, followed by the catchy, upbeat melodies of ‘I Live in a Small Town’.
‘Oh’ is a nod to ‘Loveless’-era My Bloody Valentine, while the sumptuous ‘Bright Lights’ beams with ethereal beauty as floating melodies and shimmering guitars cascade. Elsewhere, magnificent pop moments shine through with ’Goodbye To Music’, ‘Modern Dreams’ and the sublime album closer ‘Never Forget’.
Goodbye to Music' is the first taste of new music from Flyying Colours, a band who've achieved global acclaim with their previous releases, and through tours of the UK, Europe and China with artists like Johnny Marr, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Black Angels, and A Place to Bury Strangers.
We acknowledge that this event will be held on Wurundjeri land of the Kulin Nation and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
