Australian folk singer Floyd Thursby has years of songs and stories to share, whether busking in the streets of Iran, playing in nursing homes, or performing for the Prime Minister of Vietnam. From singing French chanson with quartet La Mauvaise Réputation to spearheading the skiffle revival with Skiffle Party, Thursby is fascinated by all styles of music. His original songs cover the full spectrum of life, from the sweetest loves to the saddest losses, from grappling with anxiety to celebrating the opening of a roast chicken joint, or the simple pleasure of gazing at the stars. His latest album ‘Every Day’s Another Dance’ was released in June 2024. He is performing with Dan Witton (Bush Gothic, The Wikimen) on double bass and vocals, and Harry Lye (Dr Decadence) on vibraphone.

Thursby has been booked to appear at festivals across Australia and internationally, including Cygnet Folk Festival (Tas), Majors Creek Folk Festival (NSW), Newstead Live Music Festival (Vic), West Australian Guitar Festival (WA), Yackandandah Folk Festival (Vic), Mount Roland Folk Festival (Tas), Brunswick Music Festival (Vic), Palm Creek Folk Festival (Qld), Mossvale Music Festival (Vic), Lymm Festival (UK), CresFest (Vic) and Hay Glamping and Music Festival (Vietnam).

"Floyd Thursby has a fascinating voice. But of course, all that would be insignificant without great songs as vehicles for that voice. Thursby has armfuls of them." (Rhythms magazine)

'A Thief's Journal’ (2007) ALBUM OF THE WEEK: Radio Adelaide; ALBUM OF THE WEEK: PBS FM; RRR TOP TEN ALBUMS

‘To those in flames’ (2019) ALBUM OF THE WEEK: The Age, Brisbane Times & Sydney Morning Herald “a heartfelt collection of tracks, honed with the sweetest of attention to detail in the studio. While lyrically there’s much to enjoy here, Thursby’s guitar playing, on the title track in particular, are quite simply moments to savour. 3.5/5” The Age

‘Evocative lyrics and moody atmospherics drive home the message of the title track from the To Those In Flames album, confidently executed.’ -- Christie Eliezer, The Music Network/Beat/Pollstar/Tone Deaf

‘The South Lands’ (2021) SHORTLISTED Music Victoria Awards

About ‘This Beating Heart’: “A beautiful, captivating song, born from the human heart and the very earth of this land. Ghosts of lovers past come to life in this folk tale of a mining disaster. Floyd Thursby’s voice and gorgeous guitar playing, along with an evocative string arrangement, makes for an arresting piece of music, both epic and intimate at once.” Mikelangelo
