Event Details

Founded in 2017 by bass player and composer Elizabeth Obando and pianist and arranger Vashti Sivell, Calle Luna has become a powerhouse in Melbourne’s Latin music scene. This dynamic band brings together exceptional musicians from Cuba, Colombia, Australia, and Italy, creating a vibrant fusion of salsa, timba, and cumbia, enriched with original compositions and electrifying arrangements.

The band’s unique sound is shaped by Carlitos Way, whose expertise in Timba adds a dynamic and powerful edge, and Yunior Madden, who brings the authentic essence of Cuban rhythms. Holding down the rhythm section with incredible precision and energy is Jethro Negrón, whose drumming adds depth, groove, and fire to Calle Luna’s explosive live performances. Adding to this rhythmic powerhouse is Edwin Pulido from Colombia, an exceptional percussionist whose mastery of Latin percussion brings the heartbeat of Afro-Latin rhythms to life.

The band’s powerful brass section, featuring Josh Bennier and Declan Jones, has been an integral part of Calle Luna since the beginning, delivering bold and dynamic horn lines that define their signature sound.

In 2024, Calle Luna welcomed a new and vibrant lead singer, Alessia Licitra. Originally from Italy, Alessia is a fresh face in the Latin music scene, yet she has already made a strong impact, bringing youth, strength, and power through her voice.

Calle Luna is more than just a dance band; they also showcase original compositions written by Elizabeth Obando, alongside brilliant arrangements by Vashti Sivell. Their music is designed not only to make people dance but also to inspire and move audiences on a deeper level.

With a reputation for unforgettable live performances, Calle Luna continues to captivate audiences at festivals, clubs, and cultural events, making every show an explosion of rhythm, passion, and Latin soul.
