As she heads out to join Abbe May on tour, rising star Bec Sandridge has today revealed the video treatment for current single "You're a Fucking Joke" premiered via The Ladies Network today. The striking clip comes with news of Sandridge's own headline tour this August, hitting Sydney, Melbourne and Wollongong before winding up to Brisbane for this year's BIGSOUND conference.

Working with Sydney based designer, photographer and director Imogen Grist, the blondie inspired clip's flip of gender roles sees Sandridge weave between her male counter parts set against a bold colour palette extenuating the song's punchy attitude.

Sandridge Explains; "As a proud guitarist, singer-songwriter, musician and lip-stick wearing female, I wanted to create a video that subverted the way I experience gender and stereotyping not only within the music industry, but the world in which we exist. Originally, Imo (Imogen Grist) and i wanted to invert the Robert Palmer 'Addicted to Love' clip when we realised Shania Twain had beat us to the idea.

The 'f*cking joke' was that in order to be taken seriously as a female singer-songwriter, we needed to create a world where my gender wasn't the focus. Imo and I selected a cast that appear to be neither male nor female - we mirrored my make-up in attempt to take gender and or sexuality out of the equation and it was refreshing to have men playing mannequins instead of guitars. I guess I'm also obsessed with turtle-necks."

'You're a Fucking Joke', produced by Tony Buchen (Andy Bull, The Preatures), shows off Bec's deep and commanding vocals. Having immersed herself in the sounds of Cyndi Lauper and The War on Drugs, the single has hints of gritty synths and metronome-like drums.

In 2015, Part Leisure Coast, part Glasgow resident and musician Bec Sandridge released the single 'In The Fog, In The Flame' to an insatiable response. Shortly after, she was the winner of the Triple J Unearthed, played Yours & Owls Festival, opened the stage at Newtown Festival and has toured with Little May and Half Moon Run. Sandridge recently premiered the follow up to 'In The Fog, In The Flame' on 2016 with Richard Kingsmill and online with Rolling Stone who described 'You're A Fucking Joke' as "strikingly anthemic".
