Immerse yourself in the joy of Mahamudo Selimane and Mararo Wangai's transcendent African grooves

Duke of George presents

Zukhuta with Mahamudo, Mararo and Friends

Fresh from their musical play ‘Black Brass,’ a hit of the Perth and Sydney Festivals and which toured internationally, Mahamudo Selimane and Mararo Wangai have formed a new band featuring their vibrant songs set to a variety of African grooves.  They recently launched these songs on album with an all-star lineup of musicians including Lucky Oceans.

Mahamudo Selimane is a renowned singer/guitarist from Mozambique who has toured around the world with his band Eyuphuro (one of Peter Gabriel’s ‘Real World’ label’s first releases) and is now based in Perth, where he regularly performs, most recently with Soukouss Internationale. Mararo is a singer, actor and writer from Kenya also based in Perth who has performed for and developed work with a number of Australian theatres.  Their new album, Khululeko (which means ‘freedom’ in Xhangana) celebrates the universal spirit of freedom.

The band includes Mahamudo’s long time collaborators John Wilson (The Wilds, The Doo-Daddies, Luke Dux) and Michael Boase (Beleza Samba) as well as Grammy-winning Lucky Oceans who pioneers the use of pedal steel guitar in African music.

Come see this groundbreaking band and experience the joy of their transcendent music firsthand.
