With the release of their incredibly assured debut Light Upon The Lake, WHITNEY established themselves as a band you shouldn’t be sleeping on.
They made an indelible impression at this year's SXSW, and have since been named Best New Music by Pitchfork. Lead single 'No Woman' is a beautiful folk-inspired number, where vocalist and drummer Julien Ehrlich's candid falsetto floats over Whitney's big band sound.
Whitney is built around the discerning songwriting talent of Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek, who started off as members of Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Smith Westerns, and expand to an epic 6-piece when they play live. They make Classic Americana for a modern world - twangy guitars, soothing percussion and anthemic horns, underscored by youthful and sincere lyrics.
Joining Whitney for both shows is Melbourne's Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, whose rich poppy guitar melodies and propulsive rhythm have already earned them praise with international scope.
"Whitney make a warm, simple and profoundly enjoyable rock'n'roll record." - Pitchfork (Best New Music)
"A confident and effortless record that sounds as if it has always existed." - The Guardian (4/5 stars)
"The Chicago band's gorgeous first album, captures the listless freedom of small town life." - The Fader
