Duke of George presents

Toyko Groove Jyoshi | Grooving Down Under

Due to a Massive Public Demand, Tokyo Groove Jyoshi (TGJ) the All Female Groove/FunkBand is back for their 2nd “Grooving Down Under” Tour after a Highly Successful “Tokyo Down Under” of April 2024, where both their shows at the Foundry were sold out! Four of their Seven shows in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney were sell outs then. TGJ was formed in 2018 in Tokyo by their producer Koichi Kaneko (Neko) consisting of Japanese session musicians. The band’s current line is Emi Kanazashi (keyboards/vocals), MiMi Kawakami (drums /vocals) and Rina Hoshino (bass/vocals).

Neko had the opportunity to live in New York City for eight years in the 1980’s and 2010’s. He went to see around 500 live concerts and shows. In the late 1980’s, he experienced creative music beyond genres and fell in love with groove music. As Duke Ellington said, “There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind”. Neko has strived to produce TGJ as a powerful groove band with music beyond the generations, genders and genres.

The band went to New York in February 2020 and performed at jazz music clubs such as the Bitter Ed, Shrine, Sugar, Groove and Café Wha? Famous producer Ray Angry invited the band back for more performances and they played almost every night. They have toured all over Japan playing in Festivals and Jazz Clubs. More recently, TGJ travelled overseas  toTaiwan (Sound Wave Festival in April 2023) and Singapore (Sentosa Music Festival’s  “Jazz by the Cove” in Dec 2023), Australia (where 4 of their 7 shows in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney were sold out in April 2024) and Las Vegas (3 shows at the Maxan Jazz Club in June 2024)!

TGJ has 68 videos released on YouTube performing a mixture of originals and covers. One of their originals, “Funk No. 1”  has over 17 million views! Their version of Tower of Power’s  “What is Hip” has over 3 million views.

TGJ’s single, “ Hot summer” is ranked No. 1 in the R&B/Soul in iTunes (Turkey) and their EP “Tokyo Groove” is ranked at No. 8 in R&B/Soul in iTunes (Japan)

The band released their 3rd EP with the concept of “Dance Music” in January 2024. This EP reached No.2 in Japan and Germany in the Itunes R&B Soul Category
