He's the guy Prince modeled himself on. He's the guy who has to his name production credits on some the greatest records of all time over a 50 year career such as The Band, The Psychedelic Furs, Badfinger, Cheap Trick, XTC, Hall & Oates, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Janis Joplin. As well as a little record he took a gamble on by Meat Loaf called Bat Out Of Hell. He's also arguably the biggest influence on the sound Kevin Parker honed for his band Tame Impala, as well as covered and sampled by the likes of Daft Punk, Hot Chip, The Avalanches.
In between all of that he made some records of his own, solo and with his bands Nazz and Utopia, which sit proudly amongst the heady company he kept on the other side of the control room window. Records such as A Wizard, A True Star, Something/Anything, Healing, and still as vital an artist as ever, having released his 550th solo release White Knight last year. His songs such as I Saw The Light, Can We Still Be Friends, Love Is The Answer, Couldn't I Just Tell You, Hello It's Me and the first song ever played on MTV, Time Heals (yep it's on the setlist) are more omnipresent than they're given credit for. A true pop visionary, and, dare it be said, a (yes, it dare be said) pop genius whose innovative songwriting sits proudly alongside the Brian Wilsons, Paul McCartney's, Carole Kings, Sias and Jeff Lynnes.
He's Todd Rundgren, and he's returning to Australia for the first time in 5 years.
Davey Lane (of You Am I but shared the stage with Jimmy Barnes, Crowded House, Masters Apprentices etc) is leading his Drunken Blue Roosters (Brett Wolfenden (drums),Tony Featherstone (keys) Luke Hodgson (bass) to bring Todd's vision of space rock, mind-bending psychedelia, perfect power pop, lilting piano balladry to intense rock 'n roll to the stage for 4 very special shows in intimate venues across Australia.
