Duke of George presents
The Trio
Singer and composer Allira Wilson has sung since childhood. Allira studied at WAAPA where she met many of the musicians she would end up performing and recording with, releasing her debut album Rise and Fall in 2014, which won the Best Jazz Vocal Album that year at the Bell Awards. Since then, Allira has also collaborated on a number of other releases with pianist Harry Mitchell, including the imaginative reworking of Paul Simon compositions I Am Like the Rain.
Helen Shanahan is a folk singer/songwriter from Perth. Helen also graduated from WAAPA.
Her songs ride the joys and sorrows of love and life and draw the listener into an articulate and heartfelt world of story, melody and guitar, through her eyes. Helen’s thoughtful observations and introverted reflections of everyday situations are beautifully captured in her music, which can best be described as contemporary folk/pop with a strong acoustic feel.
Allira and Helen collaborated together with Harry Mitchell on their most recently released album with the band Quiet Country entitled Sadness or Euphoria.
Jessie Gordon is a singer and songwriter, poet and producer who brings her love of old world roots music into the 21st Century. She has toured the world singing jazz, blues and her original compositions and is a multi-award winning performer. Jessie’s confident and effervescent performance style makes her a joy to watch for audiences everywhere. She had been listening to Sadness or Euphoria in the car for months and decided she desperately needed an excuse to sing with Helen and Allira, so here we are!
The trio have created a series of beautiful, intimate performances featuring their harmony-drenched original music, folk torch songs and interpretations of old world pop.
