Stepp’n Out!

With… Heidi Hillier - neo vaudevillian vignettes

And…the Machine the Fool and Us featuring Steve Robinson

Pairing up for one memorable night only at the Servo!

Get your favourite threads on and step out in style to see some crazy vaudevillian antics,

hear some amazing new music and dance yourself silly.

Described as of the hottest acts on the Australian circuit, “Heidi Hillier is not merely a

stunning circus performer, an accomplished magician, a smouldering burlesque ingenue,

and an astonishing quick-change artist…she can even transcend the limits of these genres

to make utterly engaging, moving, whimsical and spectacular theatre – as only a true artist

can”.

Heidi Hillier is an imaginative and kooky entertainer who puts her skills – hoops, juggling,

trick rope, whip, magic, and comedy – to good use to have fun with anyone and everyone!

Heidi emerged from the Circus Wow/Circus Monoxide hub of creativity and was a stalwart of

the legendary Vault Cabaret. She performs across Australia, and Europe in events such as

Vivid, Hoopla Festival, Perth Fringe World, Edinburgh Fringe, LINZ, Gangsta’s Ball, 34B,

The Ruby Revue, and the National Circus Festival.

Also on the night is the new musical masterpiece the Machine the Fool and Us featuring the

songs of Steve Robinson.

From midnight piano bar to edgy indie rock, the Machine the Fool and Us is an adventure

through genre bending mood and musical eclecticism.

Lyrically by one of the best observational poets around, words are so well crafted the songs

could be delivered as slam poetry.

There’s a reference in some songs to 80’s indie pop such as the Go Betweens and the

Lighthouse Keepers, and then in other songs, the dry wit and irreverence of artists such as

Tom Waits and Woody Gutherie.

Vintage sounds and an emphasis on the performance, the Machine the Fool and Us sounds

like someone’s right in your lounge room giving you your very own personal performance. It

is as complex as it is minimalist, lush as it is raw, as organic as richly composted soil and as

real as you can get.
