Soul Heaven Feat. Monki - International Women's Day

Who runs the world?? This International Women’s Day, we’re coming in hot as we bring you an all-female DJ lineup, representing two of the biggest names in House, Funk, and Soul;  Defected Records and Soul Heaven.

For one night only, we’ll take over Sydney’s Sussusdio in Kings Cross for a night you don’t want to miss. On loan for us for the evening is Defected’s own Monki (UK), who brings with her a wealth of knowledge and a track selection that will have you writhing on the dance floor.

Having become highly respected as an electronic music tastemaker, she set up her label &Friends in 2018 to support new emerging talent. At the age of 21 she was the first East Asian female presenter on BBC Radio1. After stepping down from her popular show, which ran every week for 6 years, during the summer of 2019 Monki embarked on a new fortnightly radio show with Defected, which is downloaded in its millions worldwide and also includes an award-winning football podcast in her resume in 2019.

She has been a regular fixture at some of the world’s signature clubs, including Fabric London, SubClub Glasgow, The Warehouse ProjectManchester, Halcycon San Francisco, Spybar Chicago, and the late great PlasticPeople. Appearances on the main stage at festivals like Sonar, Defected Croatia, SanDiego’s CRSSD Festival, Annie Mac’s LostAnd Found and California’s HARD Summer.

In 2021 she decided to concentrate on a new area of production, remixing. That year, she delivered official remixes for Calvin Harris, Mabel, Armand Van Helden, and Diana Ross. In 2023 Diana Ross’s album ‘Thank You’ was nominated for a Grammy, of which Monki contributed to.

A personal passion since childhood, football has now become another professional outlet for Monki. Now, while balancing her music schedule Monki also plays right wing for Dulwich Hamlet Women. She was part of an ambassador squad for BT Sport to support the Women’s Super League in the UK, the top-flight English football. In the summer 2019, she was also asked to be a part of the hugely exciting ambassador team to announce the Lionesses squad for the Women’s World Cup in France, including the likes of David Beckham and Prince William. From there, she set up a creative agency called INMOTION, which specialises in expanding the conversation around women's sports. In 2022, she delivered the creative direction on the video that announced the England squad for the home Euros. She went on to DJ at England's Trafalgar Square celebrations after the Lionesses were crowned Champions of Europe.

Monki leads a life centered around her passions. She’s a DJ, producer, label owner, footballer and creative. There’s no doubt that diversifying beyond music has been rewarding, but she’s not done yet. In the last decade she has rightly earned her reputation as one of the most consistent and vital women in the industry.

Like that wasn’t enough of a draw card, we’ve hand-selected some of the best DJ promoters, artists, and DJ’s to support Monki. The lineup includes Lauren Neko, Nikki Carvell, Lara Luv, and Summer Skye, so you know you’re going to have a good night.

First-release tickets are now on sale for just $10. Make this an International Women's Day to remember and come celebrate the best way we know how…  on the dance floor
