As part of the Brunswick Music Festival, The Boite presents the International Women’s

Day Eve Party at the Brunswick Artists’ Bar.

Here’s to strong women and non-binary folks in music. May we know them, may we be them, may we rock out!! Come support women and non-binary artists’ of colour and treat your ears to the music of The Boite’s 2022 Portfolio Project Alumni featuring an adventurous mixture of Latin Pop, Dreampop, conscious and genre-bending R&B, soul and goth folk with classical pazzaz.

Artists:

Pal Mar

Pal Mar is an emerging Latin Pop band formed in 2019, when Juan Pablo and Isabella met during their musical training at the EMMAT School of Music in Colombia. Their incredible passion for music and travel put them in the eyes of various audiences and to Australia. Isabella's astonishing vocal precision and tone mixed with Juan's effortless guitar playing takes you on a musical adventure to the tropics informed by Latin American rhythms. They've appeared on several media outlets and stages including SBS and Melbourne Fringe Festival. Pal Mar have recently released their debut EP 'Rua' and performed at the inaugural St Kilda Festival. https://www.instagram.com/palmarmusica/

Pomaa

Fascinated by the complexities of human connection, Pomaa crafts intricate tales of relationships between loved ones, friends and self. Her music is a mixture of driving alternative rock and waltz-like dream pop, making listeners reminisce about the ups and downs of life and the people in it.  Her debut single, “I Can’t Wait ‘Til This Doesn’t Matter”, was an exploration of overthinking and ultimately recognising that it is a temporary state of mind. It acknowledges the inner conflict of reliving your past but also represents hope for the time when these thoughts no longer weigh you down. Pomaa is now recording her debut EP, Bridge to Somewhere, which she is expecting to release this year.

VÉR

VÉR is a genre-bending solo project from Melbourne (AUS) artist and conscious storyteller, Rhyver Mores. Pulling inspiration from a wide variety of sources that range from R&B and trip-hop to Nordic metal and Sanskrit mantras, VÉR produces a unique and unmistakable sound. Having recently released their debut single "Mama" (The State of Things) and a full audio visual EP soon to be released.

Vikaye

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Vikaye got her first introduction to music at home singing hymns at family gatherings. Post lockdown Vikaye is an emerging artist who sings at weddings and performs at Open Mics. She is working on releasing her own Soul and R&B music later this year.

Yi-Lynn (Band)

Gothic and unapologetic, Melbourne’s Yi-Lynn dissects bloody topics: gore, the apocalypse, and love. With a stronghold on the technical elements of folk, classical, indie and pop song writing, Yi-Lynn has garnered praise from triple j and community radio across Australia.

Yi-Lynn’s new EP ‘Foul Water’ encapsulates everything that makes Yi-Lynn such a special songwriter. The arrangements may be gentle and beautiful, but there is no coyness to this record; Yi-Lynn is flexing her power here, knowing that she only needs to whisper to command the attention of the room.

About The Portfolio Project

The Boite’s professional development program helps emerging artists build an electronic press kit or a portfolio that include; studio quality photos, professionally written artist bios as well as professionally recorded live footage of their music performances. Participants attend workshops, have 1x1 consultations with mentors and perform at ticketed showcases helping them to navigate the local music scene. They are also given opportunities to be interviewed on the radio and participants receive a Music Victoria Membership and a Boite Artist membership giving them access to a wealth of resources as well as promotional opportunities.
