Authentic Award Winning WA Blues/ Roots and Folk of a Jeff Lang meets Paul Kelly style Storytelling Nature

Doors 6.00 pm, Show at 7.30 pm

Duke of George presents

Matt Cal

WA award winning musician, Matt Cal, presents outstanding and undeniably groovy song writing and guitar sounds with an engaging story telling nature. The music flows with an ease and confidence that draws you into his whimsical world of folk/blues and roots.

August sees Matt release his long-time favourite cover of Men At Work's classic Down Under. Recorded with Lee Buddle at Crank Recording and featuring local Fremantle Didgeridoo master Fiorino Fiorini, the result is gorgeous and timeless with the sound of the Steel Resonator Dobro ringing true.

Matt describes music as like breathing, something he has always known yet remains a mystery. At 46 he has been writing songs for the better part of 30 years with little else grabbing his attention over the years. At his heart Matt is a story teller through song - crafting lyrics of truth, fable and fiction to accompany his excellent acoustic guitar skills along with special guests on Didgeridoo, Sax and Bass during the evening.

Original songs with acoustic guitar, dobro slide guitar, cigar box blues guitar, stomp box, live looping and storytelling combine for a thoughtful, unique musical experience that’ll have your ears, hearts and souls warm and toasty.

Matt cites Paul Kelly, The Tallest Man On Earth, Justin Vernon, Jack Johnson, Pearl Jam and Aussie icons The Waifs as strong influences on his sound and style…
