Indie-rock swagger
Singer-songwriter Georgia Fields is touring nationally in November/December to celebrate the release of her highly-anticipated third studio album, Hiraeth–a widescreen vision of melodic, artful pop.
Pronounced “hee-raith”, the record takes its title from a Welsh word with no direct translation, referring to a profound longing for a home you can’t return to as it no longer exists; a sense of nostalgia or grief for the lost places of your past. Fields’ distinctive vocal brings to mind the piercing, understated clarity Feist and the shoulders-back power-stance of Sharon van Etten. From songs about motherhood, infidelity and death, to rapturous anthems of healing and home – at its core, Hiraeth is an ode to the many languages of longing.
In this magnetic solo show, Fields moves deftly from electric guitar to vintage keyboards and textural live looping, “painting entire worlds with her tunes” (Frankie Magazine). The sonic shapeshifter will share songs from the new album along with a few favourites from her previous releases.
Fields’ latest single Tigress is a slow-building, fierce-hearted alt-pop cut. Opening with a haunting howl and a vast, propulsive rhythm, the track blends punchy drum-pad samples with live kit, evoking a hint of buoyant 90s nostalgia amidst her now signature art-pop sound. Tigress is accompanied by a dreamy, atmospheric music video, Directed by Naomi Pattuwage (Heaps Stoked Productions), and featuring contemporary dance performances by rising stars Nikki Tarling and Liat Kedem.
Hiraeth is released on all streaming platforms, Thursday 17 November.
