South London duo Joy Anonymous make their debut on Australian shores this spring, sharing their warm blend of house, disco and gospel to anyone they can communicate to. More than synonymous with happiness, Joy Anonymous are a community project born out of a series of pop-up parties in London during COVID, inspiring excitement and hope in a time when both were in short supply.
During the UK’s first lockdown in 2020, Louis Curran and Australian-born Henry Counsell picked up all their music hardware, sat it down on London’s South Bank and began to jam. Starting as an exercise in boredom and an effort to inspire themselves, passers-by began to take notice, day after day. Soon enough, Joy Anonymous’ private jam sessions became a place for hundreds to dance, sing, and celebrate together. Out of this birthed Human Again, the duo’s debut album, a “soundtrack to the reopening of the world” that reflected the feeling of the parties while maintaining the sense of introspection and uncertainty COVID brought.
Following a recent string of dancefloor heaters, Joy Anonymous has a new album around the corner prepared to celebrate and show gratitude for all that was lost and is now returned after a tumultuous few years. Until then, it’s time to experience Joy Anonymous live, their high energy, buoyant expression infecting anyone in their crowds. Their unmissable shows have seen them tour the world with Fred again.. and grace stages at Glastonbury and Coachella. There is no better way to experience joy than with Joy Anonymous this November.
