A ritual night of music and dance celebrating the rebirth of the Sun with Latin America’s most soulful organic-electronic artists.

Join us to celebrate another cycle of the Sun, the NEW YEAR celebration of the natives of Abya Yala (aka Latin America) and beyond. One of the more transversal celebrations from annual natural cycles, which has roots thousands of years ago. It represents the rebirth of the Sun, an opportunity for a new beginning for all life forms. That is why it still is the most sacred ceremony for Mapuche, Aymara, Quechua, and other indigenous groups from the Andes.

We’re honoured to welcome two powerful Latin American artists: Rumbo Tumba, weaving hypnotic soundscapes with wooden instruments from South America, creating a live journey that feels both organic and ceremonial. And Afrosideral, whose fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms, improvisation, and electronic mysticism evokes trance and deep connection.

Alongside these international acts we will enjoy a special dance performance by Kathleen Gonzales (Ethnodanceology), plus DJ sets by Muiscaya, Otorongo, and Cuerpo Negro, exploring the finest Latin folktronica, ethno-organic, and Afro-Latin beats.

Artist Bios:

Rumbo Tumba (Argentina)
A craftsman of organic loops, Salgado is a one-man orchestra—playing, recording, and mixing an array of exclusively handcrafted wooden instruments native to South America in real-time. Rumbo Tumba’s live sets feature his impressive all-wooden solo ensemble, creating a unique natural sound and atmosphere that transports audiences worldwide to the purest places in nature.

Afrosideral (Cuba)
Rapper, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and music producer from Cuba. Currently based in Europe, with over 20 years of international experience. A natural improviser, he brings a mystical and ceremonial aura to the stage. Dancing as if possessed by the drums, he takes the audience from meditative states to trance. His music organically fuses ancestral and modern instruments. Charismatic, avant-garde, and versatile, he is influenced by hip-hop, jazz, experimental music, and tropical electronica, all under the umbrella of Afro music.

Muiscaya (𝐃𝐉 𝐬𝐞𝐭)
Muiscaya kicked off her DJ journey 7 years ago in Bogota, channeling the spirit of the Muiscas aboriginals and her passion for unearthing deep tracks. She’s all about the deep dig, hunting for sounds that push boundaries and make every set a unique trip. Her music taste flows with a transforming and evolving wave, ensuring that every set remains authentic and immersive.                                

𝐎𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐨 (𝐃𝐉 𝐬𝐞𝐭)
Otorongo is a music selector originally from Chile but currently based in Brisbane. He is known for transporting audiences to pristine ecosystems: tropical floodplains, mountain rainforests, or wherever your imagination feels the most comfortable. Otorongo's sets are filled with ethnic percussions, nature samples and exotic instruments, and are driven by ancient rhythms carefully blended to ensure you feel free to dance.

𝐂𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐨 (𝐃𝐉 𝐬𝐞𝐭)
Originally from Colombia and now based in Melbourne, Cuerpo Negro is a music selector who started out with the aim of sharing the vibrant rhythms of South American Folktronica in the Southern Hemisphere. Over time, the project has expanded to incorporate a range of world electronica elements, resulting in a sound that is both innovative and eclectic. Cuerpo Negro's sets are thoughtfully curated to take listeners on a sonic journey, weaving together cosmic melodies, tribal percussion, and hypnotic vocals into a seamless and immersive musical experience. His sets focus on progression, exploration, and experimentation.

𝐈𝐒𝐔 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 (𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧)
ISU TAKI is a collective of Latin-American DJs/promoters that began as a response to the lack of representation of emerging movements of underground dancefloors across Abya Yala (aka Latin America). These movements have in common the vision of re-vindication of the diversity of folkloric and traditional music by incorporating modern electronic beats to traditional melodies. ISU TAKI has been generating a space for new music genres such as folktronica, Andes grooves, Andes step, Afrofuturism, tropical bass, digital cumbia, Afrobeats, and more. As a result, a vibrant community has grown around it. ISU TAKI has organised events since 2019 across Melbourne(Naarm) and now extended to Brisbane (Meanjin), and NSW, while actively collaborating with other collectives in NSW, WA and QLD.

This event takes place on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. ISU TAKI respectfully acknowledges elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge ancient knowledge not only from Kuli Nation, but all across both continents: Australia and Abya Yala. Always was, always will be.

Howler is conveniently located just a two minute walk from both the Route 19 Coburg tram (stop 21), and Jewel train station on the Upfield line.

We adjoin the Upfield Bike Path and have many designated bike parks on site.
