Gordi – Single Launch
Sydney alt-folk act Gordi launches her latest single, ‘Nothing’s as it seems’
A diverse musical diet including classic folk icons like Carole King, Paul Kelly and Joni Mitchell and their modern counterparts in The Tallest Man on Earth, Asgeir Trausti and Laura Marling bring a welcome sense of familiarity to 21 year old Gordi's songs. But the craft in her songwriting is found partly in the emotional spectrum that her tracks span - from wistful aching to spirited celebration, her lyrical journeys take us places in our memories and imaginations that belie her 21 years.
The candour in Gordi's songs is matched by a vocal texture that is at once fractured and brimming with richness. The latest single from this Newtown, Sydney based artist "Nothing's As It Seems" is effortlessly memorable as much for the hooky melody as it is for its distinctive musical texture - an upbeat and playfully earnest track tamed by a hushed, wintery contour.
Over the past 12 months, Gordi has played dozens of shows along the east coast, including an extensive run of dates in regional areas, a nod to her upbringing on a farming property in central western NSW. In that time, she's supported fast rising Aussie acts including Dustin Tebbutt, Saskwatch, Husky, Steve Smyth with a raft of dates to come in support of her new single "Nothing's As It Seems", out 2nd October.
