FRANCES MADDEN AND BAND 'FEELING GOOD' TOUR 2017
Described as 'Australia's rising star of jazz and blues' by Sydney’s Fine Music 102.5 FM, The Basement is delighted to welcome back singer, piano player and songwriter Frances Madden.
This performance kicks off an eight-show East Coast tour for Frances in which includes Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart and the Wangaratta Jazz Festival.
Frances captivates her audiences with a combination of her genuinely warm stage presence along with a voice and style that are uniquely her own. Her music is jazz oriented but able to be enjoyed by a broad audience. As James Morrison put it: "Frances has a wonderful feeling for jazz and blues standards but what makes her a real stand-out are her original songs and unique style". Her first studio album If This Were a Dream debuted at #5 on the ARIA Jazz charts.
Frances performs at festivals, clubs and venues around Australia. Her 'Jazz Blues & Classics' show sells out every time she plays it here at The Basement. In the past twelve months, Frances has headlined at the JZ Club in Shanghai, drawn a crowd of over 1,500 people at Manly Jazz and supported the legendary Dionne Warwick as well as Grammy Award winner Gregory Porter in their recent Australian shows. She also released a live album recorded here at The Basement.
Frances' eight-piece band for this show at The Basement will feature some of Australia's leading jazz musicians. The line-up includes:
Frances Madden: Vocals & piano
Peter Koopman: Guitar
Brett Hirst: Double & electric bass
Tim Geldens: Drums
Jason Bruer: Saxophone
Ray Cassar: Trumpet & Flugelhorn
Borbala 'Bobo' Bodonyi: Backing vocals
Lauren Harrison: Backing vocals
Frances says "I'm really looking forward to being back at The Basement to perform some new tunes and some old favourites. We'll be doing a mix of jazz, blues & ballads including some original tunes together with our interpretation of timeless classics. There will be a variety of tempos and arrangements, some beautiful harmonies and also some clever improvisation from this great band. And of course, we'll do our unique take on Nina Simone's classic 'Feeling Good' in the spirt of our East Coast tour. There will be something for everyone so bring along some friends and we promise to make it an evening you'll enjoy."
