Flamenco Vuelta Cuba
Visit the Duke of George to experience a night of Cuban music and Flamenco dance.
Aire Flamenco dancers join featured guest artist Ernesto Enriquez Castillo (CUBA).
In addition to lively Cuban rhythms, the evening showcases the connection between Flamenco and Cuba. Vuelta translates as ‘roundtrip’. Many Flamenco rhythms and dances are influences the Spanish gained by travelling to Cuba and returning to reintroduce the style into the mainstream Flamenco repertoire.
Ernesto Enriquez Castillo was born in the rhythmic heart of Cuba, he has etched his name into the world of music as a very seasoned guitarist. From the tender echoes of his childhood, filled with the vibrant sounds of his homeland, to the grand stages of international acclaim. His early years were spent in the nurturing environment of Havana's music scene. It was in the historic enclave of Casco Historico, Havana's oldest district, where Ernesto first made his mark. His performances there were more than mere acts of music; they were spirited celebrations of Cuban tradition, imbued with a soulful energy that left audiences mesmerized.
Genevieve Wilkins joins on percussion. She is a multi-percussionist who is known for her vibrant energy and enthusiasm performing in a variety of different musical genres and styles. Her Flamenco performances include Fiesta Flamenca (UK), DJ Panko (Ojos de Brujo - UK), Sam Quy (UK) and was a founding member of London based Flamenco/Arab/Indian fusion group Alcazaba. Genevieve has also performed and/or recorded with Ensemblebash (UK- 2006-2016),
Aire Flamenco dancers Valeria González and Maree Laffan round off the show with a range of Flamenco styles to transport you from Flamenco to Cuba.
