In January of this year DAPPLED CITIES were commissioned by Sydney Festival to perform a selection of work from across their four studio albums in a Baroque style. The sold-out show played in Sydney Town Hall and included members of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra; it also marked the start of a year long celebration of DAPPLED CITIES 10th anniversary
Now, the party continues with the announcement of twin club shows in Sydney and Melbourne, where the band will revisit their vast catalogue in a tight, sweaty, up-close-and-personal setting - befitting of one of Australia's most highly regarded and hard working rock bands. Collarbones and Donny Benet will join DAPPLED CITIES for both nights.
Dave Rennick from the band says "Preparing for the Sydney Festival show allowed us to revisit a decade's worth of work, and we were all excited about how well the earlier songs actually held their own. Because the baroque arrangements were only really suited to a handful of our songs, we wanted to take some of the tracks we'd been rediscovering and play them in a proper rock club - where there is nowhere to hide. I guess as a gift to our hard-core fans."
Fans will soon be able to request songs for the band to perform via DAPPLED CITIES Facebook page, and there is also a hint from inside the camp of some brand new music being premiered at the shows as well. Never a band to stand still, DAPPLED CITIES have been in the studio working on album number five already.
For folks who are used to seeing DAPPLED CITIES on the bigger stage, these gigs will allow a serious exchange of energy between the band and their closest fans, a reminder of the powerful forces that have held this ground-breaking band together for more than a decade. Rejoice.
