CANBERRA: Hope Wilkins "Problems" Single Launch
“Over the last few years, [Hope Wilkins has] emerged as one of the city's most electrifying and remarkable musicians.” – Pilerats
“Hope is not emerging. Hope is already here, fully-formed, beautifully haunting amid an expanse of guitar effusions and double-barrelled lyric projectiles, spinning in this fine balance of indie spark and mainstream fare.” – BMA Magazine
Fiercely independent and undeniably brilliant, Canberra indie-folk powerhouse Hope Wilkins has made it her mission to turn pain into pop.
The 6th of May marks the release of Hope’s latest single “Problems” - A touching contemplation on alcohol and its role in the life of a young adult. Drawing inspiration from FLETCHER, Holly Humberstone, and Amy Shark, “Problems” marks a quantum leap in production, performance, and pure songwriting for Hope Wilkins.
“Like a lot of my songs, “Problems” was written with just an acoustic guitar and a melody, but for me the standout factor that differentiates this track from my previous work is the production and instrumentation. A lot of my other work is sonically quite intimate and emotionally heavy. With “Problems”, I wanted to create something a little more upbeat that still captured my style and how I was feeling, but also exhibited a different side of me as an artist.” – Hope Wilkins
Since her debut in 2019, Hope has sailed from strength to strength. Her inherent talent for honest songwriting paired with her jaw-dropping vocal range has garnered huge support from Triple J, as well as the wider community radio scene. After being initially spotlighted in triple j unearthed’s NIDA music video competition, Hope doubled down on her live performance, landing a series of high-profile support slots with the likes of Greta Stanley, Hands Like Houses, and Art vs. Science.
Hope Wilkins will be hitting the road this June-July on a five stop tour around the country. Tickets are strictly limited, so don't miss out.
