With the recent release of her debut EP, Babitha and her full band will be jumping on stage at The Vanguard Thursday 13th of May. Joined by the devo country punk gals from Sweetie, this is a night not to be missed!
Babitha (pronounced 'Tabitha' with a 'B'), is the first musical project of Imogen Grist, a modern day Jolene inspired by the mythology of the 'other woman'. Both reflective of music’s golden years yet critically of our time, Grist drapes self-reflection in heartache through a folk-country ballad hybrid of rich harmonies and soaring melodies, reminiscent of contemporaries Julia Jacklin, Big Thief, Aldous Harding and more. Babitha is equal parts vulnerable and evocative, commanding and detached.
Sweetie is an all-female band that formed in the depths of the 2020 Covid lockdown. Motivated by the turmoil of that time, Sweetie explore the tension between opposites: explosive sounds and silence, hard words and soft melodies, dreamlike mediations and big energetic expression. Since their first show in December last year, they've established themselves as a powerful live act. Their first single is due for release in June.
