Much-loved Melbourne slow-core band Art of Fighting play a rare show, giving the set list over to the audience.
Somehow, quite by accident, it has been almost three decades since two Melbourne high school friends formed a band inspired by such teenage heroes as the Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth. In that time Art of Fighting have come to epitomize the saying ‘If you know, you know’.
Do you have a favourite AOF album? Are you a fan of the fragile, bare-bones honesty of 2001’s ARIA-winning debut Wires? Or the worldly bittersweetness of 2007’s Runaways? Or even the late-night, wine-soaked introspection of 2022’s Luna Low? Over nearly 30 years, four albums, a handful of EPs and a little bit of soundtrack work, AOF has moved through many moods, toured many lands and graced many stages.
All of this is to say that now there are A LOT of songs. Too many songs to always make a set list. And for a dedicated “album band”, there are too many fan favourites that haven’t been played live for years. So as a gentle nod to re-affirming a love of democracy, Art of Fighting have decided to play a show at Howler in Naarm, and give over the setlist to the people.
Vote for your favourite three tracks before 1st of May at www.artoffighting.com and the top 15 songs will make the setlist – played back from 15–1.
