Alexander Powers is an autobiographical solo theatre performance by dancer/choreographer, musician and DJ Alexander Powers. This work asks the question "what is it like to have sex with a transwoman?" Recounting this theme the artist shares true stories of her sex life and thus the exploration and search of herself as a subject, one that fields labels such as queer, trans, female, white and Australian. Via the discourses of psychoanalysis and queer-feminist philosophies and using the mediums of spoken word, comedy, dance and music, the deeply personal is made wholly universal, and is the result of an art practice where the lines between the artist's real life and performance practice are increasingly blurred.
