ALEX CAMERON
ANNOUNCES AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND HEADLINE SHOWS – NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2022
‘Without doubt, Oxy Music honours Cameron’s skill as a storyteller, and his unique ability to embed some of the most outlandish lines into sanguine melodies’ – ★★★★ theskinny.co.uk
‘Testament to his talent as an astute alt-pop songwriter’ – ★★★★ DIYmag.com
‘A once-in-a-lifetime gift, a talent obtained by someone who understands both the complexities of the human condition and how our collective hearts default to what compassions we surround ourselves with’ – undertheradarmag.com
He’s a songwriter par excellence, conceptual and authentic and one of music’s most exciting artists. I OH YOU and Frontier Touring announce the return of Alex Cameron, touring Australia and New Zealand in November 2022 for his first shows down under in two years, in support of his latest acclaimed studio album, Oxy Music – out now via Secretly Canadian.
The effortlessly catchy synth-pop star and his six-piece live band – including sax player and collaborator Roy Molloy – will perform six headline performances in Fremantle, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Wellington and Auckland. Cameron’s previous, pre-pandemic headline tour in March 2020 saw shows quickly sell out, venues upgrading due to demand (also conveniently wrapping up 24 hours before AU/NZ borders closed.)
Get early access to tickets for the new November 2022 dates via the Frontier Pre-sale, which starts tomorrow (Tuesday 30 August) at 10am local time – see website for details. General Public tickets will then go on sale Wednesday 31 August (2pm local time) via frontiertouring.com/alexcameron.
Initially inspired by Nico Walker’s Cherry, Cameron’s latest opus (released in March 2022) is his response to the mass opioid addiction which has swept America, a musical questioning of topics such as addiction, mental health, and love, mythical stories told in Cameron’s genre-busting glory. Brighter and more buoyant than his previous LPs – 2014 debut Jumping The Shark, 2017’s Forced Witness, and 2019’s Miami Memory – Cameron has dropped the laconic, hypermasculine role-playing of his earlier solo releases for a place of optimism, stories told in the way that only he can tell. “The album is a story, a work of fiction, mostly from the perspective of a man,” says Cameron. “Starved of meaningful purpose, confused about the state of the world, and in dire need of a reason to live.”
Critics were impressed:
‘The tracks on Oxy Music are some of Cameron’s best, and his songwriting is often defter and more thoughtful than ever. The record is another shift in perspective, from an artist who hasn’t stopped moving since he set out’ – thelineofbestfit.com
‘It’s an exceptional collection of songs, one that effectively breaks down the barrier between singer and song, especially given the reflection and resolve shared in each offering’ – American Songwriter
Live on stage, Cameron has graced festivals such as Roskilde, Primavera, Laneway, Wide Awake Festival and many more, with a North American tour pencilled in for October 2022 before the band head south. Catch Alex Cameron, Roy Molloy, and their band of perpetual freshness in your town soon. They sell out shows. Don't find out the hard way. Tickets on sale this Wednesday!
