Abbe May tours Australia this February with band to celebrate the release of her highly anticipated fifth album "FRUIT" - A soul, pop & gospel juggernaut that tells the story of her life as a gay woman, from childhood through to present day.
May spent her late teens and early twenties performing in Australia's most notorious rock venues and busted up studios, touring relentlessly in unreliable tour vans in various solo and band incarnations. With sly humour, Abbe graduated from her critically acclaimed early explorations of rock and blues to become a guitar-slinging, beat-driven, iconic performer with an atmospheric cocktail of sexy, indie riff-rock, gospel, soul and electronica.
Abbe is one of the strong women of the Australian music industry with much respect across radio, blogs and venues around the country. She is an ARIA, WAM, AIR, AMP winning and nominated artist, the hand-picked guitarist for Peter Garrett's Alter Egos and a champion of the LGBTQIA+ community. A constantly evolving artist, she has performed at a myriad of summer music festivals including Big Day Out, Meredith, and Pyramid, and supported Neneh Cherry, The Black Keys, Midnight Oil, The Motels, Art V's
Science, Tim Rogers, Adalita, Magic Dirt, Emiliana Torrini, Killing Heidi, You Am I, Peter Garrett, Bob Log III, Kim Salmon, Dave Graney and Claire Moore.
Abbe has had huge success with 'Design Desire' in 2012, and 'Kiss My Apocalypse' in 2013. Associated singles Mammalian Locomotion, Taurus Chorus, Design Desire, Karmageddon, and T.R.O.U.B.L.E were huge hits after all being added to high rotation on Triple J. Her Like A Version of Ginuwine's Pony is still widely considered a classic. Several of her songs have been used in worldwide marketing campaigns for Jagermeister as well as featuring in HBO's Entourage and Jane Campion's Top Of The Lake.
Abbe is known as a phenomenal singer, songwriter and guitarist, a poetic, insightful, hard-hitting lyricist, performer and visual artist who harnesses and openly expresses her sexuality without shame. She has spent the past three years creating her fifth studio album "FRUIT", scheduled for release on February 2, 2018, and it is her most succinct and powerful declaration of identity yet. A melodic, upbeat and soulful collection of songs made to honour the lives of those who don't quite know how to stand in line.
Presale through Luxury Cat Records & MGM on December 13. Fruit is available through all the usual places on February 2.
Catch Abbe May at the Ed Castle on Feb 16, 2018 with guests TBA.
