Who is 4 Strings?
Behind the name 4 Strings are 2 musicians, Carlo Resoort and Jan de Vos. The two friends have known each other since 1986. In 1990 they became interested in dance music and from that moment on, they started producing. All their spare time was spent in the studio. Throughout the next couple of years not only did their skills expand but also the amount of music equipment in their studio. With the new tools and experience that they had, Carlo and Jan could finally discover in which direction they wanted to go with their musical careers. Carlo decided to stay in the studio while Jan found his passion in mixing and started his DJ-ing career.
The Beginning
Jan met up with Piet Bervoets (Rank 1). Piet taught him the basics of mixing. After a couple of months, Jan joined a drive-in-show, where he played all kinds of music from R&B, Top 40 to Happy Hardcore. His skills were improving rapidly, and it was during this time period he noticed that his main interest was in dance music. After winning a first place prize in a DJ contest, he was offered his very own residency.
Carlo Resoort started with dance music in 1994, and soon after that he had his first release. After a couple of releases he had his first major breakthrough: Carlos - The Silmarilla, produced together with Piet Bervoets of Rank 1. Two years later he had another hit with Turn it Around. Around this same time, a new record company was born, "Spinnin Records". Shortly thereafter Carlo signed his first record deal and 4 Strings was born.
The Music
Daytime was the first release of 4 Strings, supported by Paul van Dyk, Judge Jules and Ti sto. The follow up was Into the Night, which received even more support. After a vocal edit called Take Me Away the song became a huge hit around the globe. Even now the track can be heard worldwide. In 2002, 4 Strings Take Me Away won an award from the International Dance Music Awards for Best Progressive House / Trance Track of 2002.
Diving and Let it Rain were the follow up releases and soon the first album Believe was released. After releasing Summer Sun they started to work on their second album Turn it Around. The album was named after the new single which is a remake from Carlo's former project "Alena". Carlo also started another project under his own name, with productions like Remover, O'Class, Musica, Ayers Rock and Rise to name a few.
In 2005, 4 Strings released another hit Sunrise, this song was the theme of the number one dance music festival in Poland also called Sunrise.
In 2006, 4 Strings released Hurricane and also performed at the leading trance party of the world "Trance Energy" in February. Jewel the second release for the year, was released in May. This release featured the vocals by Tina Cousins. In August 2006, one of the biggest trance tracks ever made Take Me Away was remixed by Purple Haze (Sander van Doorn), Mac Zimms and 4 Strings! The 'Take Me Away' package contained 3 fresh new remixes. The Purple Haze RMX is an awesome progressive trance monster and Mac Zimms and 4 Strings are responsible for stunning techy remixes. In October, 4 Strings released one of their biggest records ever! Mainline became a huge success in the sales and dance charts. In the summer of 2006 was a unique '4 Strings Album Tour' worldwide, following the release of their new album 'Mainline' on 7 November 2006.
In 2007, 4 Strings collaborated with Tina Cousins for Curious and also released Desire. In September, Ultra Records invited DJ 4 Strings to make Ultra Trance 7, the compilation was released on October 9 2007.
In 2008, 4 Strings released Catch a Fall featuring Andrea Britton and The Way it Should Be. 4 Strings also did multiple live performances with live singing by Andrea Britton.
2009 was a huge year for these musicians as they began collaborations with musicians from different genres of music & languages. In April 2009, 4 Strings biggest release 'Take Me Away' was again released with new remixes by Dave Darell, Dennis de Laat and Re-Ward. These remixes have received huge support by DJs, radio stations and fans worldwide. Following the remixes was 4 Strings Music / Music Saved My Life and Let Me Take Your Breath Away featuring Lee MacDougall.
In 2010, 4 Strings collaborated with singer Samantha Fox and released their first single together called Forever in June. 4 Strings second single for the year was Sundown which was released in early August. The vocal version of Sundown called Safe from Harm is out now, with support from Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Sander van Doorn, Andy Moor, Lange and many more!
2011 started off with a huge release: Slusnik Luna 'Sun 2011' (4 Strings Remix). Already a tried and trusted fan's favourite in recent Above & Beyond DJ sets, 4 Strings remix again keeps things respectful to the original but adds a cascading synth riff that slowly rises to epic proportions in the breakdown. 4 Strings remix of Slusnik Luna - Sun 2011 is also featured on the new Anjunabeats Worldwide 03 Compilation. In July, 4 Strings released Twilight Mode followed by Sunrise (Radion 6 Remix). In August, Super8 & Tab released their compilation 'Empire Remixed' featuring 4 Strings remix of their own single Bliss.
4 Strings releases in 2012 include: Cheesecake, Rise Again, The Other Side, Breathe Life In and remixes of Dash Berlin featuring Chris Madin - Silence In Your Heart and Markus Schulz featuring Seri - Love Rain Down.
The beginning of 2013 has once again brought 4 Strings in the limelight with the brand new release: Out To Nowhere and vocal release Ready To Fall, which had its worldwide premiere on Armin van Buuren's - A State of Trance radio show! The end of the year 4 Strings collaborated with Neev Kennedy and released This Heart is Yours.
4 Strings took a break from producing and touring over the summer. Their comeback release in November was Lights Out. This progressive house track received support from the #1 DJ Hardwell, Nicky Romero, W&W, Benny Benassi, Nervo, Like Mike & Dimitri Vegas to name a few! The follow up was a trance vocal track featuring Neev Kennedy called This Heart is Yours!
After their break, 4 Strings returned to producing and touring in 2014. Releases so far include Chemistry, Living Colors, Galaxy and Monday!
