The Promethean, 116 Grote Street, is Adelaide's newest live music venue. It opened its doors as the city's newest entertainment venue in September 2007 although its history goes back to colonial times.
It is a beautifully renovated Gothic building almost 100 years old. Originally a church, a Liquor Trades Union meeting hall, and then a theatre, the Promethean in its revival has won several awards and accolades for its innovative yet sympathetic design which maintains the best of its old-world charm whilst demonstrating the boldness of the new.
Outside Gothic, inside slightly more decadent Edwardian, with the extravagant use of plush velvet, rich colours and preserved details, such as the original pressed tin ceiling, this tasteful renovation creates a beautifully intimate ambience, perfect for concerts and private functions.
