Words by Mia Dyson.

For International Women's Day, I thought it would be apropos to name some of my favourite inspiring women.

Gillian Welch

For me, Gillian Welch is one of the greatest songwriters of her generation. She has a gift for simple, direct and moving songs.

Annie Proulx

She has written so many wonderful books but the dark-edged 'Postcards' is my favourite. Her writing is part of what drew me to America!

Tilda Swinton

The greatest chameleon there is. She can play anyone, man or woman. From Orlando to I Am Love she is stunning and I always want to see any movie she is in.

Chloe Valdary

A true humanist and a voice of compassion and nuance in these times of tearing each other down.

Frida Kahlo

I am struck with wonder at how she managed to draw such beauty and insight from (or despite?) the extreme and ongoing physical pain in her life.
