Words by Sheldon:

I have had many exciting moments in my career, from touring locally and internationally to becoming a platinum-selling artist and starting my own record label. But for this segment, I wanted to pick five unique music related experiences I have had over the years that I will never forget.

Giving my album to Paul Rosenberg (Eminem's Manager)

When Eminem played in Perth in 2019, I thought it would be a perfect time to try and get my newly recorded album in the hands of his team. A friend and I searched the airport and numerous hotels for hours, just as we were about to give up, I see Eminem's manager Paul Rosenberg walking into a hotel entrance beside legendary producer The Alchemist and another member of their crew. As they went inside, I quickly found the courage to walk inside after them where I calmly caught their attention, gave Paul my CD, had a brief conversation and wished them luck for their show. I'm not sure if he ever ended up hearing it but it's pretty cool to know that Eminem's manager was the first ever person to have a copy of my later to be released debut album "Death Rattle".

Performing on stage in front of 15,000 people with Hilltop Hoods

This was insane. One morning I woke up to a DM from the Hilltop Hoods Instagram account asking if I wanted to jump up and do a verse during their hit song Cosby Sweater at their upcoming Perth show. My excitement quickly dwindled as it turned out I would be away on tour for that date. I then mentioned I would actually be in Sydney the same week as their huge sold-out Sydney show at Qudos Bank Arena and would love to be part of it there if they were willing to have me. They confirmed and it was my first time ever playing to a crowd to that magnitude and to do it during a Hilltop Hoods headline concert, during one of their biggest songs at the highest selling Australian Hip Hop concert in history at the time (very well still could be) that is an experience I will never forget and has inspired me that with enough hard work, the sky is the limit.

Meeting Snoop Dogg

There was one year where my good friend Kerser was playing the Big Day Out festival in Perth. He invited me and two of my mates backstage to come say wassup to himself, Jay UF and Dazastah. We kicked it for a bit and caught up but then they had to leave and go back to their hotel. Instead of us having to go back into the crowd for the remainder of the festival, they generously offered to give us their backstage artist passes so we could stick around to use their green room and asked us to make sure we made the most of their hospitality rider haha. That turned into us pretty much seeing dozens of iconic artists walking around, including Snoop Dogg who we got to briefly have a chat with and get some photos, which was huge for myself and the two of my friends who grew up listening to his music. We then got to watch his set from backstage and he even did a tribute to Tupac. It was a surreal moment and also one of the last memories I have with one of my friends who was there to experience it all with us. RIP Dista. And shout outs to Kers, Jay & Daz for giving us an experience we will always cherish.

Seeing Dr. Dre induct Eminem into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

After I finished my Australian tour in 2022, I decided to go on a trip to USA & Canada. After spending a few weeks in Canada with some friends it was time to make my way home via Los Angeles. But by amazing timing, it turned out the Rock & Roll Hall of fame was on the same week. Where Eminem, one of the main reasons I started rapping in the first place would be inducted. Obviously, I felt this was meant to be and I bought a ticket straight away. Next thing I know, I'm sitting in a huge theatre by myself on the other side of the world in Los Angeles watching Dr. Dre induct Eminem into the Rock & Roll Hall of fame. An event that is not primarily focused on Hip Hop artists. Em then when on to perform some of the most important songs of my childhood and getting to see one of my idols accomplish such a major achievement in person was one of the most inspiring and motivating things I've ever witnessed.

Connecting with Drapht

Being a Perth local, Drapht (along with the rest of SBX) was one of my first introductions to Australian Hip Hop. I remember when I first heard tracks like Who Am I, Falling & of course Jimmy Recard, which I have always considered to be an absolute genius concept of a song. This opened me up to the rabbit hole of other Aussie Hip Hop artists. My first interaction with him was when I sent him a message on MySpace when I was still in high school asking for advice and to my surprise he actually responded and was very kind to a young kid trying to get involved in the scene. A few years later, I did my first mixtape launch at small venue in the city and out the corner of my eye I see him walk through the entrance paying for a ticket. That was a crazy exciting moment for me. Years pass and not only does he invite me to be part of events, songs and videos, we developed an amazing friendship and I have been lucky enough to go on many tours with him where I experienced life on the road, learned countless industry, business and life lessons from him and he even believed in me enough to sign me to his record label 'The Ayems' where I released my debut album, Death Rattle. Having someone from my hometown who I looked up to since I first started listening to Australian Hip Hop take me under their wing, constantly be willing to give me advice and teach me so much, not only music-wise but as a human being, that is an amazing experience and a friendship I will forever be grateful for. Shout outs to the king of the West!

Thanks for having me Moshtix! I could do another 5 but we will save that for next tour! See you legends soon!
