Local Artists To Support For Bandcamp Friday

Online music hub Bandcamp has announced the extension of their hugely successful Bandcamp Friday's event, waiving their fees once again until the end of 2020. All sales revenue from music and merch sold on the platform will be given directly to artists on the first Friday of each month.

With lockdowns and social distancing restrictions forcing a huge number of local Australian and New Zealand acts to cancel or reschedule shows, we've created a list of our fave acts as well as local labels that you can help support through these tough times.

P.S. You can also find a helpful list of black and indigenous artists and record labels currently selling their music via Bandcamp HERE.

In Hearts Wake

Bryon Bay-based metalcore band, In Hearts Wake dropped their new album 'Kaliyuga' today and it's a bloody ripper! The album is partly inspired by the bush fires that ravaged the nation at the end of 2019 and the strong community bond that was formed out of it. The entire album including bonus instrumentals is available for digital download via their Bandcamp page HERE.

Hatchie

Harriette Pilbeam aka Hatchie is a Brisbane singer-songwriter with a very bright future ahead of her. She released her debut EP 'Sugar & Spice' in 2018 and has since gone on to release an incredible studio album 'Keepsake', alongside a bunch of other killer tracks. Her most recent feat, however, is her single 'Sometimes Always'. You can score a digital download and a limited edition 7" of the single via her Bandcamp page HERE.

Wing Defence

According to The Guardian article by sports journalist Megan Maurice, Wing Defence is the most underrated and influential of netball positions. Adelaide's pop-punk duo Wing Defence certainly live up to this statement, especially with their newly released EP 'Friends'. The EP is full of dreamy pop vocals with a raw punk edge. Score a digital download of the EP via their Bandcamp page HERE.

Wax Chattels

Auckland's self-proclaimed 'guitarless, guitar band,' Wax Chattels are well accustomed to loud rock-infused noises. After a successful debut EP and studio album in 2018, the trio has announced, the trio is back with their second studio album 'Clot', set to be released on September 25. Pre-order the digital album via their Bandcamp HERE.

Milly Tabak & The Miltones

Auckland-based Americana band, Milly Tabak & The Miltones are the masters of producing songs that seamlessly blend the old with the new. Their most recent second album 'Honest Woman' is a fine example of the sheer musical talent running through their veins. You can download the album or score a 12" vinyl of 'Honest Woman' via their Bandcamp HERE.

Troy Kingi & The Clutch

If you thought writing an album would be hard, Multi-award-winning Kiwi artist Troy Kingi is taking things one step further, pledging to release ten albums over ten years in ten different genres. 'The Ghost of Freddie Cesar' is his fourth installment in his 10 10 10 series and is Troy's most personal records yet, taking listeners on his own personal recollection of his father's disappearance in 2005. The album drops on September 11. Pre-order the limited edition vinyl, compact disc or digital album via his Bandcamp HERE.
