Yothu Yindi
From Treaty to Tribal Voice, the rhythms and message of Yolngu rock pioneers Yothu Yindi made 1990s Australia sit up and listen as the band became a proving ground for some of the country’s most celebrated artists from Gurrumul to King Stingray.
Now thirty years on and featuring original band members and fresh talent from the next generation, this revamped supergroup of blackfellas and whitefellas from far North East Arnhem Land continue to honour the music and movement its founders sparked in 1986, and live up to the spirit of intergenerational kinship of the band’s name (Yolŋu Matha for ‘child and mother’).
In this special NAIDOC week celebration, the ARIA Hall of Fame inductees will take the stage at Hindley Street Music Hall to inject new fire into classic songs. At a time when words of their timeless anthem Treaty reverberate into present-day conversations around Voice, Treaty, Truth, this is a band, and a message, that will make you feel, think, and move.
Presented by Illuminate Adelaide in association with Hindley Street Music Hall.
