SeenSound and Vitalise present a crosspollination of live audio/visual performance, featuring Brigid Burke, Donna Hewitt, Mark Pedersen and more.

SeenSound brings 10 years of experimentation in audio/visual performance to Sydney for a one-off collaboration with Vitalise’s roster of live electronics explorers.

Brigid Burke is an Australian composer, performance artist, clarinet soloist, visual artist, video artist and educator whose creative practice explores the use of acoustic sound and technology to enable media performances and installations that are rich in aural and visual nuances. Her work is widely presented in concerts, festivals, and radio broadcasts throughout Australia, Asia, Brazil, Europe and the USA. Her art practice is traditional acoustic sound, inventive, cutting edge, acousmatic (fixed sound within acoustic spaces) and exists on the cusp between acoustic and electronic sound with mixed media art works, traditional print making, mosaics, paintings on canvas and wood and video art within the field of electronic music and imaging. Her work is beyond the framework of traditional music and video art and is considered as electronic painting, or a high art concert.

Donna Hewitt is a vocalist, composer, instrument designer and academic. Donna specialises in electronic composition, music production and performance. Her creative practice explores mediatized performance environments and new ways of interfacing the human body and voice with electronic media. She is the inventor of the eMic, a sensor enhanced microphone stand for electronic music performance, and more recently has been creating wearable electronics for controlling both sound and lighting in performance.

Mark Pedersen is an interactive media artist whose work includes
live audio/visual performance, sound design for choreography, theatre, film, poetry and radio, interactive audio/visual installation and various solo and collaborative audio projects. He performed as part of Vitalise 2021 and his work has appeared in Prue Lang's Stellar Project for Dance Massive (Melbourne 2017), the International Symposium of Electronic Art (Sydney 2013), the Mesmerism Festival, the Melbourne Fringe Festival (2014) and has been broadcast on ABC RN’s Soundproof (2016). He co-curates SeenSound, a regular visual music performance series with Brigid Burke and Adrian Sherriff.

Vitalise emerged in 2021 as a vibrant and diverse hub of live electronic music performance in the heart of Sydney, bringing together seasoned performers and first-time explorers united by a love of synthetic sounds. Vitalise is gearing up for fresh adventures in 2022 and is delighted to be teaming up with SeenSound to see what may emerge from the mix!
