When we were young and starting out, we looked up to bands in the Australian music
underground and aspired to be just like them, bands like Radio Birdman, Celibate rifles, Died
Pretty, The stems, Hoodoo Gurus and the list goes on....
We wanted to make our own style of punk rock that represented who we were and where
we were from.
Over summer 2020 we listened to a lot of our favourite Australian 45’s from that era and
they all seemed to have one thing in common, Rob Younger.
We had the idea to make a string of singles as a homage to those great singles of the late
80’s and so we called up Rob, who is also a Wollongong local these days, and he was keen to
be involved.
So it’s all come full circle, we’ve always been big fans of Rob Youngers work, both as a singer
and a producer and it was a lifelong dream of ours to work together on some new
Tumbleweed music.
We recorded at Garth Porter’s Rancom Studios in Sydney and the first single “Shadowland”
will be out on October 16th through Farmer and The Owl.
Next year is our 30th anniversary and we have heaps of exciting things planned, Vinyl re-
issues, vintage t shirts, a pictorial book and a documentary and much of this preparation
and production has forced us to look back on the past 30 years. We’ve seen it all, had the
highest highs and the lowest lows, realised most of our dreams and lived through the
nightmares, you can read all about it in the current book (“Healer – the Rise, Fall and Return
of Tumbleweed” by Glen Humphries) but, we are still going, and loving it more than ever!
Because, when you’re living it, when it’s your life, you are mostly in the present, or looking
toward the future and that’s how we continue forward, by not looking back.
We think the latest recording is our best work yet and we are excited about it and we can’t
wait to do the next one.
