Contemporary blues- rock / reggae, dub, soul and funky grooves

Subway Monk originally formed as a three piece in 2001 and played across a host of Inner West venues under their original name Green Beaver. With the addition of the harp player (Roger) the band changed their name to Subway Monk.

Subway Monk are a contemporary Australian blues-rock band that pride themselves on a diversity of grooves and rhythms. John Negro drives the groove with his Hendrix and Steely Dan inspired guitar riffs while Dave Taylor and Alan Lew keep the rhythm locked down and solid. Roger Allen provides his dirty blues harp which adds depth and colour to this all-original Sydney blues-rock band. The band is very professional in their sound and approach to playing music and have diversity in their songs. You may just want to listen, or you may just have to dance.

Five Canoes was originally formed fifteen years ago as a duo by Pete Scott and Johnny Kairouz. Pete on electric guitar and Johnny playing drums. They were joined by Trent McGinn on bass guitar and Royce Sanderson on synth keyboards. Tony Flint a fifth member has recently joined to add additional keyboards and backing vocals.

Currently writing and recording new material the band are adapting reggae, dub, soul and funky grooves to build songs that support vocal melodies with a stripped back feel. There is also a nod to the late 70’s and early 80’s synth pop bands with their broad guitar and synth arrangements.
