FUNDRAISER GIG! Help Spectra Jazz Orchestra record their debut album!
Spectra Jazz Orchestra
After their recent re-naming and a Covid-inflicted hiatus from performing, Spectra Jazz Orchestra (who used to be called the Young Women’s Jazz Orchestra) are here and very excited to play for you! Spectra Jazz Orchestra (or SpeccyJo for short) are an exciting 16-piece group of young women and gender diverse musicians. The talent is strong with these legends! Their repertoire boasts a colourful mix of styles from Mingus swing, to contemporary jazz, to ska and reggae, with a focus on works by Australian composers.
Since the group’s creation in 2016, the band has played at popular jazz festivals in the Sydney area including the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival, the Manly Jazz Festival and the Blackheath Rhododendron Festival, as well as well-loved Sydney venues including Lazybones Lounge, Camelot Lounge and Foundry616. SpeccyJo alumni include a host of talented and in-demand musicians such as drummer Chloe Kim, saxophonist Kali Gillen and trumpeter Bernice Tesara, and members have gone on to form successful groups such as Dogma, Monstress and Ensemble Muse. Come along and hear the stars of the future at a fun, festive and family-friendly afternoon of music!
Saxophones: Monika Murn, Katie Bombardieri, Gabriella Hill, Sam Cheng, Alex Dent, Grace Duggan
Trumpets: Lily Olive, Uma Volkmer, Zarah Salgado, Mya Hill
Trombones: Maya Lecuna, Olivia Bryant
Rhythm: Jenna Lewis (guitar), Julia Vlahogiannis (piano), Ramona Spicer (drums), (bassist TBC).

Opening the afternoon is the Kate Richards Trio. Top notch trumpeter Kate bands together with rising stars Lauren White (double bass and vocals), and Eitan Muir (guitar), to bring you a set of swinging and grooving standards.
This afternoon of music is a fundraiser gig for Spectra Jazz Orchestra’s album recording later this year! Your generous donations will be hugely appreciated, plus there will be merch and other items to buy with all profits going towards making the album happen!
