with support from The All Mother and Bodywire

Second Idol launches their new single Postcolonial Blues, with support from The All Mother and Bodywire, in a fundraiser event for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).

Postcolonial Blues is a reflective, slow-burning anthem that contemplates colonialism and the weight of history.

"Postcolonial Blues is a contemplation of my upbringing in country NSW in the town of Kempsey, on Dunghutti land, and my personal experiences growing up in a cross-cultural household of Sri Lankan and Scottish heritage. It contemplates the racism I experienced and observed in my hometown and the tensions and fractures that continue to exist. This song is me trying to make sense of my place in the world and how I reconcile calling Australia home."

– Kate (vocalist/guitarist)

Produced/Mixed/Mastered by Clayton Segelov (Shady Nasty, Sleepmakeswaves) and engineered by Angie Watson, Postcolonial Blues is from Second Idol's forthcoming album Mongrel, due for independent release in mid-2025.

Second Idol is known for their impassioned performances drenched in venom and melancholy, unleashing a fusion of alternative rock, goth, grunge and post-punk influences. Informed by feminism, queerness and cross-cultural identity, the band transverses concepts of power, gender and otherness. Stridently determined, Second Idol is a band for outsiders.

Artists Second Idol has supported include Baxter Dury (UK), Arse, Battlesnake, Cry Club, dust, Grinding Eyes, Harry Howard and the NDE, Jen Cloher and Wolf & Cub.
