Okinawa Americana (JPN) - Australian Debut Tour
Okinawa Americana offers a unique convergence of ancient Okinawan music, steeped in tradition and sacred vocal sounds, with Mississippi blues, rhythm and rock. This seems like an odd pairing but the combination works. They will play a mix of originals and reimagined covers.
The duo features David Ralston, originally from Indiana, who is a world class blues slide guitar player. He has many solo albums to his name some produced by Delaney Bramlett (Eric Clayton’s former producer). Alongside David, is Megumi “Merry” Gushi, who is Okinawan born and bred. She sings like an angel in her traditional language and in Japanese, while playing the ubiquitous 16th century three-stringed Sanshin, being the precursor to the more commonly known Japanese Shamisen.
You are in for a treat. Come and see them before they disappear back to the subtropical Okinawan islands.
