Following his recent national tour with Ivan Ooze, Canberra artist Kirklandd has returned with a fresh style in the form of his new single, Impulse, and a one-off exclusive headline show at Mr Wolf to launch the track.
An uplifting blend of soaring piano chords and 90s-style hip hop, Impulse showcases the Canberra native’s storytelling ability and ear for eclectic production.
Through a dreamy sonic landscape by co-producers Cam Bluff and Kay Ansah, Impulse explores the experience of returning to an old love. Kirklandd explains:
“Going back to the familiarity and comfort of this connection always feels like it could lead to something more… but ultimately it’s never more than acting on impulse”.
A former cello player, Kirklandd’s passion for live instrumentation shines through in every project, as showcased in Impulse’s Black Panther-inspired percussion, floating beneath the ethereal vocals of Zellow.
Following performances alongside Boo Seeka, Arno Faraji, Dylan Joel and Seth Sentry, Kirklandd has announced a one-off immersive show of the single in his hometown of Canberra.
Featuring a local lineup of thriving Canberra-based musicians and fine artists, ‘Impulse: An Experience in Light & Sound’ will offer a live experience unlike anything Canberra’s seen before.
Kirklandd promises to deliver a few surprises in this launch show that’s being performed exclusively in his hometown of Canberra, with further announcements to come.
Impulse is live everywhere now.
