Australian heavy metal legends Mortality are back!
Playing "Structure" in full.
Saturday 3rd August at Darling Nikki's
Special guests DepriVation & Anoxia
Mortality were one of the bands at the forefront of the Australian metal scene in the 90's. With national tours and supports slots for international heavyweights such as Sepultura, among others, Mortality gathered a dedicated following and spearheaded a new movement for the next generation in the Aussie metal scene.
The release of their seminal album, Structure, on Warhead Records, saw Mortality lean into a more groove-oriented death metal sound. Structure was praised as one of the decade's best local metal albums and went on to receive international praise. Structure was a milestone that showcased Mortality's unbridled aggression and complex compositions.
Mortality disbanded at the end of 1997. Darren Maloney would go on to join Cryogenic, Luke Ford joined Many Machines on Nine (MM9) which would go on to experience their own successes. After continued pressure from fans who had not witnessed the songs from Structure performed live, Mortality would play a single show in 2007 with guitarist Andrew Lilley, which saw a sold-out Empire Hotel turn into a mosh pit induced tsunami of bodies with the roof viciously torn off. Mortality would then return to an indefinite hiatus.
In 2020 Luke Ford and Darren Maloney found themselves in Covid lock down and organically started writing songs remotely with the idea of forming a new band. After a year it became noticeably clear that the style being produced was undeniably that of Mortality. It was at this time that the decision to reform was made, and they commenced the daunting task of searching for additional members. Aaron Bilbija, guitarist and founder of Sydney’s mighty melodic death metal band Daysend was the perfect fit. Aaron also suggested bringing along Daysend’s Jason Turnbull as a second guitarist to further increase the overall weight of their sound. Finally after a lengthy search, drummer David Pietersz (Sanctium, Project 34, Bane of Isildur) completed the lineup and Mortality was reborn, with a sound that embraces it’s past while evolving into the future.
With a revitalised line-up, the energy in the room is going to be intense!
