Saturday 5th October - Weapon Survival Essentials (Open to all): 10:00AM - 2:00PM

Learn how to apply the principles of Kinetic Fighting–Integrated Combat to control your fear and protect against common street weapons.

This course (Charlie module in the KEF–IC syllabus) was developed by Army Combatives Program creator Paul Cale. In it you will discover the essential components of surviving an armed attack, but also how to arm yourself — legally — for the purpose. A mix of theory and practice, these lessons will help you hone fundamental skill sets (including those learned in our Self-Protection Essentials course, if you’ve done it) and integrate Kinetic Fighting’s core principles and survival strategies into your thinking as well as your actions.

In this module you will develop a working knowledge of the following key aspects of self-protection:

  • Weapon awareness and detection
  • Weapon characteristics and vulnerabilities to exploit
  • Distancing concepts specific to weapons
  • Weapon suppression and control methods
  • Legal considerations for possession and use of self-protection tools
  • Improvisation and effective use of legal tools for defence.

You will also receive a comprehensive training booklet for each module, along with a certificate and badge (which adheres to KEF–IC training gear) denoting your completion of these modules in the Kinetic Fighting system.

Prerequisites: None — beginners welcome*

Sunday 6th October - Weapon Response Framework (Open to all who have completed Weapon's Survival/Charlie): 10:00AM - 2:00PM

Develop your Kinetic Fighting–Integrated Combat skill sets and overall defensive capability with this follow-up to Paul Cale’s essential weapons-training course, the KEF–IC Weapon's Survival (Charlie) module.

In this course (the KEF–IC Delta module), your instructor will take you through a series of drills and scenarios designed by Kinetic Fighting founder and former Commando SGT Paul Cale to heighten your awareness and quickly develop your ability to respond to bladed and blunt weapons. In four hours on the mats, you will grow your arsenal of effective counter options and expand your understanding of survival tactics when it comes to weapon threats and attacks.

In this module you will develop a working knowledge of the following key aspects of self-protection:

  • Recognising and dealing with combat stress and fear
  • Awareness of capability, and working within it
  • Intercepting/capturing a weapon regardless of angle
  • Simple and direct takedown methods
  • How to use walls and objects offensively and defensively
  • Assisting another party during an assault

You will also receive a comprehensive training booklet for each module, along with a certificate and badge (which adheres to KEF–IC training gear) denoting your completion of these modules in the Kinetic Fighting system.

Prerequisite: Weapon Survival Essentials Course (AKA Charlie)

THE INSTRUCTOR:

This training in essential, real-world self-protection skills will be delivered by KEF–IC Instructor Justin Qubrosi. Ranked 4th Dan Black-belt in the Kando Martial Arts system, Justin Qubrosi teaches full-time at his own academy, Kando Martial Arts, Highett. Kando is a freestyle blend of karate, kickboxing and ground-fighting, with a self-defence focus owing to its founder, Shihan Paul Veldman, having had a long career with Victoria Police.

Justin has been practising martial arts since the age of 14, with a brief hiatus to complete his Bachelor of Science in Computer Technology. Although his career began with re-engineering and project management work in the finance sector, his “keen focus on sharpening [his] expertise in all things self-defence and combat” soon took over.

Alongside Kando and Kinetic Fighting, Justin regularly trains in BJJ with Trent Rice and in kickboxing with former Muay Thai champion Nick Kara. He is also a certified instructor of Floro Fighting Systems (Category 7) and Kalis Illustrisimo (Level 3), both under edged-weapons expert Guro Raymond Floro.

Justin holds
* Certificate III in Fitness Instruction and is licensed to teach KEF–IC modules A–E.
* Kando Martial Arts 4th Degree Black Belt
* Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
* Jissen Budo International (All Round Fighting) 3rd Degree Black Belt
