With nuum, Aria Wood, Porcelain Boy and Parasol
Secret Sounds return with their monthly club night ‘Ground Level’ on Thursday 28 September at The Lansdowne, Downstairs. Showcasing the very best local and emerging talent, alongside surprise international guests. The September instalment will feature nuum, Aria Wood, Porcelain Boy and Parasol.
nuum
nuum, the artist project of 23-year-old Australian singer/songwriter/producer Solomon Gutteridge hailing from Dunsborough, Western Australia, began a little over 7 years ago whilst he was still in high school. Combining elements of Electronic, Pop, Classical Piano and Ballads, nuum creates a unique soundscape and experience in every song he releases. 2021 saw the release of nuum’s first EP “Spider Lily”, an emotional notebook of songs that nuum explains; “were a catharsis that allowed him to untie knots inside him that had previously stopped him from expressing himself freely through music.” Starting 2022 out with a bang, nuum released an official remix of Japanese Shoegaze band “揺らぎyuragi’s song “While my waves Wonder” alongside artists such as Ryan Hemsworth and Slow Magic, back-to-back with a remix for Canadian indie trio ;Afternoon Bike Ride.
Keeping his momentum up since moving to Melbourne, nuum has been on a winning streak, playing at Daine’s Nocturne event, supporting Nick Ward’s Debut Australian tour, playing regional shows in Sydney and Melbourne, and his own headline shows in Melbourne and Tokyo surrounding the release of nuum’s second project “nu world”, a forward-thinking pop EP which has garnered him attention from fans Internationally and Locally. 2023 continues to pave an exciting path for nuum with his 3 break out singles "Run from Me" "Black Coffee and a Cigarette" and “Mirror” showing the artists new evolution and exciting trajectory for what’s to come. With no plans on stopping and more music on the way, nuum is one to watch.
Aria Wood
Aria Wood was born in Sydney and is currently living in Melbourne. She is a one-woman band - producing and performing everything herself. Her current influences are Caroline Polacheck, Charli XCX, Shygirl and Rosalia. She aims to create accessible, fun music with lyrical depth and interesting production details.
Porcelain Boy
For a decade that ends too soon, Porcelain Boy scribes an instructional guide to a youth well wasted. From club lines to club lines. 20 somethings pack into stalls, cling to the walls or fight demons to a four on the floor. Sharing packets and pre-packaged conversations under a baptism of synth waves, Porcelain Boy takes you through the do’s and don’ts of the world after dark. The moniker of producer/artists, Jordan & Jordyn - (Jordxn) is a mismatched pastiche of punk, indie and club. Crudely (albeit tastefully) bound together by the Sydney rental crisis, a hard-drive full of break packs, and the recreational (ab)use of dextroamphetamine.
Parasol
Parasol is a Sydney-based producer, radio host and MIDI enthusiast, fascinated by all things saccharine and emotionally overwhelming. In 2021 they released their debut record 1800-PARASOL, a collection of beatless trance sketches inspired by ringtone music, on Midheaven. As a performer and DJ, Parasol most recently supported Bloodz Boi at the Sydney stop of his Australian tour, and has also played alongside Lorenzo Senni, umru, Petal Supply, Donatachi, and Katie Dey. They co-host the show Deep Web on FBi Radio with Krishtie Mofazzal, which “zeroes in on the frequencies originating from musical cyberspace, shining a spotlight on labels and releases that come from all corners of the internet.” They are currently working on a second full-length, due to be completed in late 2023, that has so far seen their sonic interests move from traditional trance sounds and supersaws towards more organic, reedy, woodwind textures.
