Frontier Touring can confirm that exquisite singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin is returning to Australia for an intimate and acoustic performance at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory this June! The news was made today whilst the English prodigy is in the country on a whirlwind promotional tour.
Growing up in a (self-confessed) 'hippy' household where music was a family staple, Gabrielle has been writing and recording songs since the age of fifteen. She first caught the world's attention posting videos of original compositions and covers on YouTube that collected millions of views and would go on to set up her own label at the age of seventeen on which she released three iTunes charting EPs.
It didn't take long for record companies to pay attention and she was quickly signed by Parlophone in February 2012 before heading into the studio to begin recording her debut album with producer Mike Spencer (Emeli Sand , John Newman, Ellie Goulding) the following month.
Entitled English Rain (out now through Parlophone Records), the album recounted Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell - artists whom nurtured Aplin's talent through childhood and adolescence - with ageless tracks that are at times rousing or intimate but always full of emotion.
English Rain debuted at #2 on the UK and Scottish album charts and reached #22 here in Australia on the national ARIA Albums chart whilst peaking at #11 on iTunes Australia week of album release. The first single was a delicate and affecting cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'The Power of Love' (watch here) which earned her the illustrious and illusive Christmas #1 single in the UK as well as a top twenty hit on the Australian singles chart. The single recently climbed to #7 on the Australian iTunes Chart and featured on the advertisement for exciting new Channel Seven drama 'Resurrection' (watch here).
Second single and original composition 'Please Don't Say You Love Me' (watch here) has earned the multi-instrumentalist yet another UK top ten hit and subsequent single 'Panic Chord' (watch here) spotlights her versatility with its upbeat melody and bittersweet lyrics.
Critics have heralded that, whether on the stage or on the radio, Gabrielle Aplin as name that is here to stay:
'Her entire performance was fantastic. The track listing was spot on and all of the music was played superbly by her and her band. Her voice sounded spectacular too, even better than how it does on record. The atmosphere created from the combination of songs and lighting worked excellently.' - Fortitude Magazine
'English Rain is an absolutely outstanding piece of musicianship from Gabrielle Aplin, taking you through a mix of emotions with each listen, from the melancholic ballads to the folk numbers that will soundtrack our summers. We're not sceptical in the slightest that this album will do her proud and all her hard work will have paid off.' Bring The Noise 9/10
Last year, Gabrielle supported Gotye on a European tour and made her first visit to Australia supporting Ed Sheeran with fellow Brit Passenger on his highly-acclaimed sold-out tour, collecting legions of news fans along the way.
Gabrielle Aplin's performances in Sydney this June promises a captivating showcase of talent from one of the UK's most exciting talents. Don't miss your chance.
