Event Details

Fresh from a stint in the studio and bursting to road-test her new songs, Courtney Barnett is hitting the road for her first ever headlining tour in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this March.

Presented by Village Sounds and Polaroids of Androids, Courtney and her band The Courtney Barnetts will play with some of their favourite bands in Sydney (Pear Shape & Bec and Ben), Melbourne (Money For Rope and Atolls) and Brisbane (Grand Atlantic and Dom Miller).

The tour name Avant Gardener is inspired by an episode of anaphylactic shock that sent Courtney to hospital in December 2012, she was weeding her garden in the midst of a heatwave at the time. The song of the same title will be available as a limited edition physical single to all those attending the shows.

It was only 12 months ago that Courtney Barnett released her debut EP I've Got A Friend Called Emily Ferris to critical acclaim and widespread praise for her "top shelf slacker pop" (triple j) and startlingly honest turn of phrase. The success of that release has seen her take her sprawling guitar-driven quartet on tour with Willis Earl Beal, Jens Lekman, Jen Cloher, Royston Vasie, and Darren Hanlon.

Mess & Noise reviewed Courtney's latest single History Eraser by saying it was a "brilliant ramble of lyrics that name-checks The Stones, The Triffids, ticket inspectors, hipsters and all those people who go to "arty school." They named it the 4th best song of 2013.

Triple j's Dom Alessio wrote that "she's surely in line to become Australia's next queen of rock & roll"
