Melbourne noise punks CIVIC close out the year at Howler
CIVIC have been described as one of the most exhilarating bands to emerge in recent years. Their music is a reimagining of the reckless intensity of proto-punk for an era of endless uncertainty and blends garage rock, punk, and '90s-style noise-rock.
2023 saw the five-piece return with their visceral new sophomore album ‘Taken By Force’ - aptly described by the band as “1984 meets Endless Summer.” It was produced by Radio Birdman frontman Rob Younger and mixed/mastered by Mike Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control) and released on ATO Records.
“2023 Artists to Watch” – NPR
“One To Watch” – The Guardian
“Most Anticipated Albums Of 2023” – Stereogum
“staking their claim to be one of the world’s best rock n roll bands at the moment.” – Matt Wilkinson
“Jim McCullough in turns evokes the punk spirits of Iggy Pop and Jay Reatard.” – FLOOD
“Relentless, aggressive in-your-face punk jams. Think Shame, Fontaines D.C.,
and IDLES, but Australian.” – WFUV
After a relatively quiet year off the road working behind the scenes, CIVIC have recorded their forthcoming third album (details to come…) and will be previewing some of these songs alongside their glorious existing catalogue as they headline their final Melbourne show of the year.
Joining them “live & loud in December” will be special guests Wet Kiss, Frenzee (Greece) and Bitumen.
