New World Artists & Bluebeard Music present:
BUGS
Today Brisbane pop-rock mainstays Bugs are thrilled to release their newest offering, ‘Seriously’, the fourth and final single off their long-awaited second album, ‘Self Help’. The track premiered last night on triple j Good Nights, and comes alongside news that the boys will embark on their own five-city national tour in November, on the back of supporting Australian rock legends Grinspoon throughout October.
Having made a name for themselves with hook-laden tracks that double as candid explorations of one’s inner emotional dialogue, Bugs are thrilled to lower the stakes with ‘Seriously’. “‘Seriously’ is a song about those times you screw up and end up feeling like a bit of a goofball. It’s easy to be self-deprecating when you make a mistake, but it’s often more helpful to shrug it off and remind yourself that these things happen to everyone,” reflects the band’s frontman Connor Brooker. “It’s liberating and fun, just like the song. I want it to be a friendly reminder that life isn’t flawless, and how it’s important to find the comedic value in defeat.”
‘Seriously’ was recorded, mixed, and produced by Brock Weston at Brisbane’s Bedlam Records, and mastered by Tyson Ruth at Studio Truth.
Hailing from Brisbane, Bugs are a light-hearted group of mates who find joy in crafting infectiously happy pop music, and packaging it up with a dose of honest and relatable songwriting. In 2018 the band scored an opening slot at Falls Festival after a triple j unearthed win, as well as supporting USA legends Cloud Nothings, and Aussie heavyweights British India, The Hard Aches, Alex Lahey & WAAX. Off the back of their grippingly honest millennial fan-favourite ‘Neighbourhood’, the band also delivered their engaging and animated live show to crowds at Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and Melbourne Music Week.
That year saw the release of instant hit ‘Glue’ via the renowned Domestic LaLa 7” Club. Following back- to-back plays on triple j, the triple j Unearthed-premiered clip for ‘Glue’ raked in the love, with over 112,000 views to date. In April 2018 Bugs released their EP ‘Social Slump’, and embarked on a huge national tour throughout May and June that took them to almost every corner of the country, selling out dates in Brisbane, Melbourne Sydney, Adelaide and Wollongong. Packed-out sets at BIGSOUND followed suit, including an appearance at the Levi’s Music Prize showcase, before hitting the stage at Beer InCider festival alongside the likes of fellow Brisbanites The Jungle Giants, Morning Harvey, and Sweater Curse.
Following the release of late-2018 single ‘Sweetener’, 2019 has cemented the band’s status as one of the most beloved emerging acts in the country. The release of single ‘Safe Place’ ticked off another triple j premiere, and lead into an appearance at Farmer & the Owl festival, as well as their anticipated ‘Sweetener’ tour which saw the band sell out their biggest hometown show to date at Woolly Mammoth, and pack out shows in Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide.
The band’s last single, the poignant and emotive ‘Something’s Bound To Go Bad’, scored a premiere on triple j Good Nights and showed a softer side to their upcoming record, leading to Bugs selling out their vinyl pre-order and receiving praise from the likes of triple j, Unearthed, and Sydney Morning Herald. Current track ‘Seriously’, plus the announcement of the band’s upcoming support with Aussie legends Grinspoon, sees the band step closer to their sophomore album ‘Self Help’ due out September 20.
